“Jamie, how do you feel about Detour?”
Detour is fun because I make friends, like Davina, Leah, Christopher Forest, Paul, Rebecca, Taylor, and LJ. I also like practicing with Cory who is the other Charlie in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I like my coaches a lot. Sam, LaRiche, Simon, Andrea, Becca, Jordan, and Jack make me happy and tell me, “You can do it.”
I really like learning my lines for shows; it’s so fun! Performing in shows is dynamite. My favorite part is dancing and singing. I especially like it when the audience starts doing it with me. I have done a lot of plays with Detour, like Aladdin, Grease, Charlie Brown, Rent and Mama Mia. In More of the Best, I loved singing “I Love to Laugh” from Mary Poppins and saying my lines as Sven in Frozen.
I am excited to be Charlie in Willy Wonka. When LaRiche told me I would be Charlie, I was thrilled. I knew I could do it, but I knew I would have to work hard. I like Charlie because he loves his family the way I love my family. When Charlie goes through the tiny door, he is brave. I can’t wait for you to hear “Pure Imagination”—my favorite song that is at the beginning and end of the show. See you there! - Jamie Mote
