Detour Company Theatre provides theater training and performance experiences for adults with cognitive and physical disabilities, giving them authentic opportunities to develop artistry, demonstrate courage and collaboration, experience joy and participate in the sharing of musical theater with the entire community.
These adults may have disabilities including (but not limited to) autism, cognitive and physical challenges, deafness and blindness, which require additional support and adaptive techniques. We work to create rewarding programming that supports existing skills and celebrates the development of new ones.
We also serve as a resource to the community--both to support those who want to work in the field of arts and disability, and to those who are eager to celebrate the talent, creativity and artistic potential of all people.
LaRiche is a dynamic leader, visionary and artist. LaRiche earned her Bachelor of Music from Bowling Green State University on full scholarship and continued her studies at Indiana University’s prestigious Jacob’s School of Music. LaRiche offers over 10 years experience in theater and music coupled with over 20 years experience in business leadership and management. She is dedicated to the growth and development of those she serves, which has enabled her to touch lives with her humor, warmth, transparency and strength.
LaRiche first came to Detour after being blown away by our 2019 performance of Shrek. She was inspired to contribute her skills to what she describes as a “necessary and impactful cause”.
LaRiche wrote, “I want to facilitate the debunking of toxic narratives around people with disabilities, specifically those with intellectual disabilities. I have chosen to do that with Detour because this company has displayed a fierce commitment to continually empowering and honoring the actors’ and their capabilities, boundaries and dignity. Detour is an organization that is growing and changing to accommodate and advocate for the needs, goals and desires of those we represent. That is a cause worth committing your life to and I am thrilled to be a part of continuing Detour’s legacy of advocacy and theater for all.”

Coaches are the glue for programs! Coaches work with a small group of actors to help facilitate learning, participation and success in weekly classes. Coaches do not have to have prior experience in drama or working with actors with disabilities. We are happy to provide that training. Coaches do need to come with an open heart, creative spirit, and a willingness to embrace this exciting fun-filled journey. For more information on joining our coaching team, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Detour welcomes volunteers who are willing to work in set-building, set-painting, costume production, prop creation and more. These jobs are all very show-specific and time commitment can vary from hours to weeks. Please contact email@example.com if you are interested in helping and sharing your talent.
